Workstation Set Up

Key points for setting up your workstation:
  • If your desk is adjustable, adjust your chair to the correct height to allow your feet to relax on the floor then adjust the height of the desk to just below elbow height.
  • If your desk is not adjustable, raise or lower the chair to a position where the desk is just below elbow height then use a footrest if required.
  • If armrests are present, they should not restrict the chair from moving close to the desk, and shoulders should be relaxed.
  • Position your mouse and keyboard close enough to allow your elbows to stay relaxed by your sides.
  • Screens should be placed around arm length away although this may be slightly closer for some people, and the top of the screens should be around eye level.

A well set up workstation that supports a variety of relaxed working positions is a great starting point to manage health risks.

However, even with a great workstation set up, our bodies will still become tired if we sit or stand in the same position for a long time. Take regular breaks and remember, the best position is the next position.
