Pregnancy and childbirth can put extra stain on your body, including increased pressure on your pelvic floor muscles, joints and ligaments. This may lead to discomfort or issues including tears, incontinence or prolapse. Our physiotherapist can assess for any birthing injuries and give you guidance on management throughout the postpartum period.

We recommend seeing us for your first post-natal appointment around 6 weeks to get an early start on treatment and management. However, you are welcome to book in at any point that you feel some guidance would be helpful.
What we cover in a post-natal physio appointment
  • Advice on recovery after birth
  • Assess for abdominal separation and begin rehabilitation for this
  • Assess for injuries or damage, and check pelvic floor strength
  • Advice on returning to exercise and sex postpartum
  • We also address any specific issues or concerns you are currently navigating

If you're recovering after having a baby, you may also find our guides on when to see a pelvic health physiotherapist and bladder leakage after childbirth helpful.
